Motorola on Tuesday unveiled a new Android smartphone that is likely soon headed to both AT&T and T-Mobile here in the U.S. The Motorola PRO+ runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a candy bar form factor with a full QWERTY keypad. The BlackBerry-like QWERTY sits beneath a 3.1-inch VGA touchscreen display, and spec highlights include a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage, microSDHC support, 512MB of RAM and a 1,600 mAh battery. “The Motorola PRO+ is built for people who want to take the pressure off and consolidate their work and personal lives with an efficient smartphone that acts like your personal assistant,” said Alain Mutricy, Motorola’s senior vice president, portfolio and device product management, in a statement. “Today, with our demanding 24/7 lifestyles your smartphone should make your complex life easier and give you an edge at work and at play.” Pricing and availability have not yet been announced for AT&T or T-Mobile. An Apple hire from earlier this month ignited rumors that a composite, fruit-branded smartphone may be in the works. Kevin Kenney, the employee in question, assumed the position of “Senior Composites Engineer” at Apple after a 14-year stint making carbon fiber bicycles. The origin of this latest, notebook related rumor seems to be a blend of Mr. Kenney’s hiring, sprinkled with a dash of information published by iLounge earlier this year — stating that a “milestone” update to the MacBook Pro laptop family was due in 2012. The most recent Apple fodder has the company revamping its MacBook Pro line with a black, composite casing and improved specs. Not a lot of firm ground to stand on with this one, but worth mentioning nonetheless.

According to information acquired by WinRumors, Verizon Wireless will begin to sell Windows Phone handsets towards the end of March. Citing “people familiar with the company’s plans,” the blog goes on to note that the HTC 7 Trophy — the same CDMA, WP7 handset to be carried by Sprint — could be announced as early as February 28th. The device will have Microsoft’s “NoDo” update (also known as the copy and paste update) and should retail for $199.99 with a signed two-year contract. Blog 9to5Mac has procured some interesting information in regards to what Apple is cooking up behinds its closed web store. The blog is reporting that all 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models will have an Intel i7, quad-core processor clocked from 2.0GHz up. The laptops will also switch from NVIDIA graphics cards to AMD silicon. The base-line 15-inch MBP will have AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB of RAM, while upper tier 15 and 17-inch models will sport a AMD Radeon HD 6750M chip with 1GB of dedicated RAM. The 15-inch model will be available with a 1920 x 1200, 1080p display and this display resolution will be standard on the 17-inch model. Following the Apple MacBook Pro leak saga? Rumors have been swirling practically every day about Apple’s latest MacBook Pro refresh, and a leaked photo from earlier today appears to confirm part of what we exclusively reported — that Apple’s new MacBook Pro’s will have larger all-glass multitouch trackpads. The same report also confirms the presence of a Thunderbolt port on the new MacBook Pro, which is Apple’s name for Intel’s Light Peak connection set to be unveiled tomorrow as well.

UPDATE: Upon closer inspection, it looks as though the MacBook Pro pictured above may have the same sized trackpad as the current 13-inch model, though it is possible that the new 13-inch model will retain the same sized trackpad while the 15 and/or 17-inch models may see a size increase.

The Apple rumor-mill is really churning out some product this week. According to site fscklog, the above image is a preview of what the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will look like. What’s new and notable? An Intel Core i5 processor, SDXC card slot, available matte screen, and Intel’s Light Peak technology. Renamed by Apple as Thunderbolt — which is totally different than the ThunderBolt — Intel’s high-speed bus technology provides data transfer speeds of 10Gb per second — with speeds of up to 100Gb/s in the future. “At 10Gb/s, you could transfer a full-length Blu-Ray movie in less than 30 seconds,” explains Intel. One of our illusive ninjas from the North has just informed us that Canada’s largest wireless provider, Rogers, will begin carrying Dell’s Venue Pro sometime next month. For those in need of a quick refresher: the Venue Pro is a full-QWERTY, portrait slider running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system on a 4.1-inch AMOLED display. No word on what the VP will cost with and without subsidies, but we’ll keep digging and let you know if we come up with anything.

Chinese forum IT168 is at it again, with more leaked images of Sony Ericsson’s refreshed X10 Mini Pro. Previous rumors have the next-generation Mini Pro packing a 1GHz CPU with an independent GPU, 3-inch 320 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, and Google’s latest Android 2.3 operating system. From the images we’ve seen, it also looks like the hanset will have a front-facing camera for video calling and a rear-facing camera of an undisclosed pixel count (although judging by the “HD” label, we’re guessing it has to be at least 5 megapixels). Dell is having a hard time getting its T-Mobile compliant Windows Phone 7 handset — the Venue Pro – shipped in time for the holidays, but that hasn’t stopped the company from sending at second iteration of the device to the FCC for approval. A Venue Pro sporting WCDMA bands II and V — AT&T’s 850MHz and 1900MHz 3G bands — has crossed the government agency’s desk. If you’re an AT&T, Bell, Rogers, or Telus customer, and fancy the vertical-sliding device, this is encouraging news. While FCC approval doesn’t guarantee a release, it is certainly a step in the right direction. Any customers of the aforementioned carriers interested in the Venue Pro?

Earlier this morning, we told you that retail giant Best Buy began pulling Motorola’s DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro from store shelves. Although the cause was initially rumored to be a handset pricing dispute between the two companies, that simply is not the case. In an email to BGR, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson noted that the company has not mandated or otherwise requested Best Buy to remove the devices from its shelves. The spokesperson went on to emphasize that there is not any kind of recall (hardware, software, or otherwise) that would explain such an action. To hammer that point home, Verizon’s official Twitter account let this 140-character cherub loose this afternoon:

Best Buy has yet to respond to BGR’s request for comment. For the time being, Best Buy is playing this one pretty close to the vest.

Here’s a head scratcher. Several of our Best Buy ninjas have come forward to let us know that Best Buy Mobile is informing employees that it will no longer be selling the Verizon Wireless’ DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro. Explanations run the gamut, several sources have referenced that exploding (probably not exploding) handset we reported about last week, while others are blaming a handset pricing disputed between the big box retailer and America’s largest cellular carrier. Whatever the reason is , it has not been clearly communicated to employees or the media at this time. We’ve reached out to both Best Buy and Verizon Wireless to see if either party would like to clarify why the two members of the DROID family are no longer on BBY’s store shelves. We’ll report back with any clarification we get.

It looks like Verizon Wireless will be sharpening up their entire phone lineup in time for the holidays. Engadget has just published an excerpt from Verizon’s latest cell phone rebate sheet, and the discount-document has quite a story to tell. The document details several Motorola devices; including the DROID Pro, Citrus, and two SKUs for the DROID 2 Global. The two-SKU listing for the DROID 2 could indicate one model with a camera and one model without, or that the handset will come in two different colors.
