Research In Motion isn’t just a leaky faucet ahead of BlackBerry World this year, it’s a waterfall. We scooped RIM’s 2011 BlackBerry lineup back in January and more recently, we gave you a hands-on look at the BlackBerry Bold Touch, BlackBerry Touch and BlackBerry Torch 2 smartphones, but the leaks continue. In recent days we’ve seen full specs, brief hands-on videos and more, and for the two or three remaining naysayers who still don’t believe RIM is about to announce its next-generation smartphone lineup at BlackBerry World next month, RIM’s promo videos are now starting to leak out. Companies typically don’t put these promotional spots together unless the have some devices to, you know, promote — so BlackBerry fans should sit tight for another couple of weeks and we’re certain they’ll have some sleek new smartphones to swoon over. Not everyone follows tech news as closely as BGR readers, so it’s quite possible that some poor souls purchased a cell phone from Verizon Wireless this past holiday season without realizing the iPhone 4 would be an option in early February. Of course, many users have no interest in the iPhone but those who do might have felt a bit slided when Verizon announced Apple’s smartphone earlier this month. The silver lining on this cloud — well, it’s more of a gray lining, really — is that Verizon will help dial down the hit for those willing to return their recently bought phones and pay full retail for a new iPhone. Here’s the deal, as detailed on Verizon Wireless’ iPhone FAQ page:

I just purchased a new smartphone during the holiday season, but if I knew that iPhone 4 was going to be available soon I would have waited. What are my options now?

Current Verizon customers who purchased and activated new smartphones, feature phones or certified pre-owned phones between 11/26/2010, and 01/10/2011, are eligible to receive up to a $200 Visa debit card when they purchase an iPhone 4 at full retail price by 02/28/2011 and return their existing phone. Note: This offer is only available on consumer accounts with five lines or less, who are purchasing iPhone 4 through Verizon Wireless retail stores, telesales, or through verizonwireless.com.

Full retail for Verizon’s iPhone 4 is $649.99 for the 16GB version and $749.99 for the 32GB model. This means those who purchased phones during the holidays are still looking at a $250 gotta-have-it fee on top of the $200 or $300 they would have spent for a new iPhone on a contract. If you’re having a serious case of buyer’s remorse, however, this could be a good option. Just be smart about it — if you bought a new high-end smartphone over the holidays and you can manage to pull in more than $200 plus your purchase price by selling it on eBay, you should pass on Verizon’s offer and take that route.

Dell is offering a limited-time promotion on the Motorola DROID X that will net customers a $25 Dell gift card. Through Dell’s online mobility shop, the Motorola DROID X is currently available for free with a two-year Verizon Wireless agreement. Dell is also waiving Verizon’s activation fee, shipping the handset for free via FedEx and offering customers one $25 Dell gift card per order. If there’s a sweeter deal out there for Motorola’s supersized DROID smartphone, we haven’t found it. Dell is also still offering the same deal on the HTC DROID Incredible.

T-Mobile has announced a new buy one, get one (BOGO) promotion for families that will begin this week on Black Friday. The limited time offer will allow new and existing subscribers signing two-year agreements to receive a free “featured smartphone or affordable Android handset” when they purchase a “featured smartphone” at its current retail price. T-Mobile’s list of featured smartphones is as follows:

•T-Mobile G2

The carrier’s list of affordable Android handsets includes:

It looks like America’s largest cellular carrier, Verizon Wireless, will be taking a page out of the playbook of the nation’s third largest provider, Sprint. We’ve received multiple tips indicating that customers in select markets are starting to receive an email offer from Big Red hawking a $69.99 monthly plan that closely resembles Sprint’s $69.99 Everything Data plan.

The aforementioned data plan will allot users 450 monthly minutes, unlimited messaging, unlimited data, and unlimited Verizon mobile-to-mobile minutes. A family share plan (for 2 lines) will retail for $139.99 and provide 1400 anytime minutes, unlimited messaging, unlimited data, and unlimited Verizon mobile-to-mobile minutes; additional lines can be added for $19.99. Both plans require a 1-year contract renewal and you can only take advantage of the promotion by calling the number listed in the email.

Sprint still has a proverbial leg-up on Verizon as their Everything Data plans all include unlimited, carrier agnostic, mobile-to-mobile calling minutes.

Still, if you’re a Big Red customer, and purchased all this new plan offers independently, it would retail for roughly $90 — $39.99 for 450 minutes, $19.99 for unlimited text messaging, and $29.99 for smartphone data. Hit the jump to see the full advert and let us know what you think

Allow us, if you will, to inject a little humor into your Friday afternoon. The comedy troop over at JLE have uploaded a “Banned White iPhone 4 Promo” spoof to video-sharing site YouTube. The video has some amazing one liners and lets you know that “if you’ve waited for the white iPhone, you’re an idiot” as you’ve “waited for 5-months for a phone that is a different color that you’re just going to put a cover on anyways.” The three minute spot is after the break, enjoy!

Despite the fact that there’s still plenty of Summer left to be enjoyed, companies just love reminding students that another semester/school year is waiting around the corner. Sure back-to-school deals are nice but it might have been nicer to keep school out of sight, out of mind for a bit longer. The most recent Summer buzzkill notable promotion comes by way of Alltel and is available to the 91 divested markets not controlled by Verizon Wireless. In Alltel’s words: “New and existing Alltel Wireless customers with “My Circle” plans, Smart Choice Packs, and Bundled Wireless Internet plans can add up to four lines to their primary account, with a $25 activation fee per line, and receive three months of free service on those new lines.” So parents, if you’re finally getting around to adding a few new lines for your rugrats this is definitely a nice little perk to sweeten the deal. Alltel’s back-to-school promo runs now through September 10th — more than enough time to mull it over.

Cloud-based productivity suites are popping up left and right these days and each new product poses a new level of competition to Microsoft’s Office Suite, which at one time had reached monopoly-like status. It’s still certainly at the top of the pile of course and Microsoft is planning to embrace the cloud at some point, but the company has a more immediate need to invigorate current Office offerings. The solution? Get ‘em while they’re young. Regularly priced at $679.95, Microsoft just dropped its student pricing on Office Ultimate 2007 an unheard of 91 percent to $59.95. That’s right, Ultimate 2007 is now less than half the price of Home and Student 2007 which only includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote compared to Ultimate 2007′s 10 software titles. We’re sure there are a few more handsets to come from T-Mobile this holiday season, but we just got word that the boys in pink have special promotion planned as well. Dubbed Free Companion Flight 2008, T-Mobile has a special treat in store for new and existing customers alike. Here’s how it works:

When someone activates, renews or migrates to a new 2-year service agreement between November 19th and December 24th, he or she will be eligible to receive a Free Companion Flight, ie one free round trip flight, when an additional ticket is purchased at the full fare price through a special T-Mobile website (www.FlyWithT-Mobile.com – not yet live). 112 origins and 110 destinations will be covered by the promotion and they will be spread throughout the cities detailed on the image seen above.

Of course there are some restrictions involved but nothing too crazy. Essentially everyone is eligible as long as they’re not on a business / corporate account. Postpaid, FlexPay Annual Contract, Take Control, SmartAccess and KidConnect accounts are all fair game and each account is eligible for up to five free companion flights. Sweet!
