The Microsoft machine seems to be picking up some serious steam. Sparked by sales of its Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft announced very strong quarterly earnings yesterday — highlighted by revenues of $19.02 billion; a new company record. T-Mobile USA just turned in its Q2 2009 numbers and while things weren’t all bad for the nation’s number four, Tmo is seeing its progress slowed while both Verizon and AT&T continue to gobble up subscribers by the millions. T-Mobile netted 325,000 new subscribers last quarter, down from 668,000 YoY and 415,000 sequentially. Of all the numbers reported, that is likely the most significant. AT&T released its results for Q2 2009 this morning and while there’s no question its performance in the quarter was solid, not all is peachy for the nation’s number two wireless carrier. First things first… The iPhone: AT&T activated 2.4 million iPhones in Q2, meaning almost two and a half million iPhones were sold in less than a month here in the US. Pretty nuts.
