Rumors that the HTC Trophy will land on Verizon Wireless have been swirling since last year,  but the carrier has yet to make an official announcement. That may change soon, as the Trophy has been spotted on Best Buy’s website, suggesting that an imminent launch is possible. The page is no longer live, although Pocketnow managed to grab a screen shot before it was pulled. The device was listed for $599.99 before any Verizon Wireless subsidies, but it’s possible that that figure is a placeholder until an official price is revealed. The tale of the Trophy landing on Verizon is as old as time itself: A Verizon branded HTC Trophy was leaked in early March, and despite reports that the phone would launch in “early 2011″ or “late March,” the phone has yet to surface in any official capacity.

Layar, the company behind the popular augmented reality app for the iPhone and Android smartphones, announced on Monday that Layar 5.0 is available. The latest iteration allows users to share screen shots — of anything they view through the application — through Facebook or Twitter. Layar 5.0 also provides new animation capabilities, which means some layer content can come to life in 3D form. Coincidentally, we were using Layar this weekend while walking around a new town, and while we find it much easier to simply use a search engine to find local points of interest — because the Layar browser didn’t always return accurate results — we applaud Layar’s efforts to turn local search into an interactive tool that can provide a fun and unique experience. The app is free and is available in both the Android Market and iTunes App Store now, and Layar says that a new Symbian version with the updated features is in the works.

One of our BlackBerry sources just shot us over some information on the latest version of Desktop Manager, version 6.1. Besides bringing compatibility to upcoming BlackBerry handsets that will run OS 6.1, Desktop Manager 6.1 is also said to bring little enhancements and changes to the desktop application. One noticeable addition we caught? The ability to forget a previously backed up / synced device. See? Still using a BlackBerry has its perks from time to time. It looks like Motorola ATRIX 4G pricing revealed recently when Amazon prematurely posted a product page might not be so deeply discounted after all. Instead, the $149.99 price point could be standard among discount retailers at launch. An alleged photograph taken of Costco’s inventory system reveals the same price point for AT&T’s upcoming Android superphone. The Motorola ATRIX 4G features a 4-inch display, a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM and Google’s Android operating system. It also features an optional dock accessory that converts the device into a full-sized smartbook. Motorola confirmed that the ATRIX 4G will become available late next month, and AT&T has not yet revealed pricing for the phone.

Russian mobile maestro Eldar Murtazin comes through again, this time with the first reported screenshot of Nokia’s highly, highly anticipated upcoming Maemo 5 OS. Did we mention it’s highly anticipated? After referring to S60 as “obsolete junk”, Murtazin lays down a screen capture of Nokia’s new Linux-based beauty. As we all know, this time around Maemo is destined for a whole lot more than just a few Internet Tablets that are filling a hole that isn’t there — that’s right, a whole range of next-generation handsets are in the pipeline and due to be fueled by Maemo 5. First up of course, is the T-Mobile-bound Nokia Rover we spied earlier this month and it certainly looks like a gem. As for what’s next, Nokia’s track record with leaks suggests it won’t be long before we have a good idea of some more handsets to come. Not much can be gleaned from Murtazin’s image unfortunately, though we can at least take solace in knowing that a modern looking OS is soon to be found on Finnish phones. Let’s hope at least one of them has a QWERTY keypad with a centrally located space key — that’s not too much to ask, right? Oh Nokia World, you can’t get here soon enough…

Nary a day after its announcement, a hastily made, WordPress.com-hosted blog claims to have the first ever pictures of the new Google Chrome OS. The OS was purportedly installed on an aging dual core Acer Extensa 4620Z as part of a demonstration given to the Acer team at company that supplies parts for Acer. The screenshots show a very minimal OS with a docking bar, reportedly called the Chrome bar, and Google Talk as the only available application. The leaker claims to have seen a quick run through of the OS and was able to snag these screenshots with his mini cam when the Google rep let his guard down for 10 seconds. Hmm, an interesting story and one that would certainly lead to a mess once the rep recognizes that unmistakable table. These screenshots can be easily forged and contain a fair amount of inconsistencies — why is the Google logo coloring off, who designed that childish Google Talk icon and why is the OS not running on the Acer Aspire One netbook, the target platform for this OS? Well hello there, onslaught of WebOS images — a whole bunch of beautiful new screen grabs of the Mojo SDK running in an emulator have just popped up, shedding plenty of light on the OS everyone is dying to play with. The screenshots provide another glimpse into Google maps, Synergy integration with Microsoft Exchange, Facebook and Google, the finger friendly launcher, the transparent overlay of the applications and dialog boxes and more. If these shots are representative of the entire WebOS experience, Palm may have Apple and Google shaking a bit in their boots, RIM running back to the drawing board to re-design the Storm 2 interface and Microsoft hanging its head in shame over the improved but still-awkward Windows Mobile 6.5 UI.
