INQ still working on Facebook phone; to be called ‘Cloud Touch’?

The sleuths over at unwiredview.com have found a Bluetooth SIG entry for a fairly peculiar device being called the INQ Cloud Touch. In the filing, the Cloud Touch is described as:

An Android smartphone built to make messaging faster and smarter. It’s designed around the way people naturally communicate and has Facebook built into its core. The homescreen features multiple entry points to different Facebook functions, while a dynamic widget displays a feed of status updates, albums, videos and photos.

Back in September, Bloomberg published a report indicating that INQ was working on a handset for the social networking company. The filing is fairly recent as the software version has a build date of 12/17/2010. While there is no way to be one-hundred percent sure this is a Facebook Phone, the evidence seems to point in that direction. What do you think? Anyone out there so invested in the Facebook ecosystem that this is appealing?

CDMA HTC Snap / Ozone to get Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade?

Folks who scooped up the HTC Ozone from Verizon Wireless or the HTC Snap from Sprint may be pleased to learn that an official upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 may be in your future. According to documents published on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s website, a Windows Mobile 6.5 variant of the HTC Cedar, codename for the CDMA Snap, has received regulatory approval. There are no additional details other than the CEDA100 moniker and the WM6.5 designation. With this handset being released so close to expected Windows Mobile 6.5 roll out later this year however, we can only hope HTC (and Sprint and Verizon) will extend this olive branch to early adopters.

Bluetooth 3.0 ready to launch on April 21st

It’s not every day we get to talk about the launch of an exciting technology revision that will have a huge and near-immediate impact on the mobile industry, so we’re cherishing the opportunity. And this one is indeed a big one — Bluetooth 3.0. First revealed about a year and a half ago, Bluetooth 3.0 will make use of Ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless technology to achieve transfer speeds of up to 480Mbps. No, seriously. Higher transfer speeds are actually achieved by enabling 802.11 standards when heavy lifting is involved and then switching back to an older, slower standard when big transfers are completed. Reasoning? To slow power consumption and side-step unnecessary battery drain when standard low-bandwidth communications are used. We’re hoping consumer-ready Bluetooth 3.0 devices won’t be far off from the launch, though it will take some time before gear such popular mobile phones take advantage of the technology. Oh and in case you’re wondering, yes, it is pretty ironic that the world will have already gotten a taste of Bluetooth 3.0 in all of its glory… Before Apple handsets support A2DP.
