Ultrabooks will remain pricey through the end of this year, with ideal pricing of $600-$700 finally being reached in 2013 according to Digitimes. Due to the high production cost associated with the computers — especially solid state drives, which are 10 times more expensive than traditional hard drive — prices are expected to remain high in order to maintain profitability. As vendors work on reducing costs, ultrabooks have chance to reach $799 in the second quarter of 2012, a significant drop from the $99...

Sony on Monday announced its latest and thinnest back-illuminated CMOS image sensor that will no doubt help manufacturers create thinner smartphones. “Sony has succeeded in establishing a structure that layers the pixel section containing formations of back-illuminated structure pixels over the chip affixed with mounted circuits for signal processing, which is in place of supporting substrates used for conventional back-illuminated CMOS image sensors,” Sony explained in its announcement. “By...

During the IFA trade show in Berlin on Thursday, Toshiba unveiled the AT200, an Android Honeycomb tablet that will no doubt compete directly Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1. It measures just 7.7mm thick, .9mm thinner than the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which should make it the thinnest Android tablet when it hits store shelves. The AT200 is equipped with a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution, a microUSB port, a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a micro-HDMI port, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 5-megapix...

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Dell is ready to readdress the luxury notebook market with a new ultra-thin offering to take on Apple’s MacBook Air. Dell launched its sleek Adamo line in March 2009 and its first model was an underpowered, over-designed offering that started at $2,000. Dell would later introduce less expensive Adamo laptops but consumers still wouldn’t bite, and the Adamo line was killed off in early 2011. On Tuesday, Dell will unveil its latest attempt to cap...

Motorola has produced several iconic handsets during its storied existence. The DynaTAC, the Vader, the v60 and of course, the Motorola RAZR. What Nokia did for the candy bar-style mobile phone in the 1990′s, Motorola did for the flip phone in the early 21st century. Thin, sleek and stylish, the RAZR was initially brought to market in early 2005. The handset was light, easily fit in the pocket and packed a flat, backlit keypad that proved itself to be a formidable text messaging obstacle. The device w...

LG has confirmed with Pocket-Lint that the Optimus Black — announced during CES as “the world’s thinnest smartphone”– will make its debut in the UK next week. Carrier partners are currently unknown, but this is definitely a device worth getting excited about. It packs LG’s colorful and crisp 4-inch NOVA display with 700 nits of brightness, a 5-megapixel camera, and a secondary front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chat. The Optimus Black is powered by a 1GHz processor, which ...

Images of what is claimed to be Apple’s second-generation iPad have been published by Chinese site DGtle. The images definitely line up with what we’ve heard so far — much thinner case, dual cameras, a speaker grill and so on. It also looks like rumors of a white iPad might pan out, as tipped by the white antenna cover seen in these pictures. Nothing is confirmed until we see that shiny new iPad 2 unveiled on stage a Yerba Buena later today though, despite the fact that this purported Apple tab...

Fresh from CTIA day 1 in Las Vegas, HTC is about to unveil its latest Windows Mobile handset that sets its sites on the likes of BlackBerrys and the Nokia E71. Slim and sleek, the HTC Snap sports a sexy 12mm-thick case and a smooth QWERTY keyboard. At first glance the Snap may seem a bit behind the times as far as specs go — the 2 megapixel camera is pretty underwhelming and Windows Mobile 6.1 standard is soooo 2008, but let’s put things in perspective. Consider the handset’s competition: Th...

Samsung is expected to unveil a new LED-backlit LCD TV at CES that is a mere 7mm thick at its greatest width. For perspective, take a gander at the 7mm drill bit in the image above. That is one crazy thin and presumably ultra-fragile TV. Keep this beauty away from children, flying Wiimotes and people that sneeze with force. Samsung claims that this is the thinnest LCD TV on display at the present time and at 7mm we doubt anything else will come close. No other details about the TV has been released so we will...
