We hope nothing gets in the way of this because we certainly don’t want to be let down twice.

Recent handsets supporting that statement include the myTouch 3G, the Hero, the Hero and of course the Touch HD seen above. The blog reports that HTC’s upcoming HD sequel will run Android as opposed to Windows Mobile as found in its predecessor; a move we wouldn’t mind at all. Other rumored tidbits include a faster 628 MHz processor, up from 528 MHz in the original HD, and a 3.8-inch touchscreen display just like the HD. The presence of Android could lead to a capacitive screen however, though that’s just speculation on our part. Hopefully we’ll get official word from HTC soon, or at least a good old fashioned leak with some evidence to support it. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get some HD love in the US this time around.

Apparently HTC got a bit caught up in the spirit of the holiday season because a sweet little easter egg has just been uncovered that is sure to excite all you US HTC fans out there. That easter egg — 850 / 1900 MHz UMTS bands! It seems HTC has been holding out on us and hiding away a North American version of it’s sexy Touch sequel. So why didn’t HTC make it known that the Touch HD packed AT&T-compatible 3G? It was a surprise for the holidays obviously! Umm, no. The company probably just didn’t want to piss people off since it has already made it known that the Touch HD will not be coming to the US. Now before we get ahead of ourselves, it’s entirely possible that the manual refers to a build of the handset that was canned prior to production. While there have been reports of people getting 3G reception with the Touch HD here in the US, it’s entirely possible that they were using the Telstra version which packs 850 / 2100 MHz UMTS. Either way, if it works it works. We still expect HTC to stand by its announcement, meaning we aren’t ever going to see a carrier-subsidized version of the phone – you may however, be able to snag an import with full-on 3G at some point.

It looks like US all of the commotion caused by the Android-powered HTC G1 made HTC completely forget about releasing the company’s sexy Touch HD here in the US. According to an HTC employee who has probably been convinced by a PR firm to “get more involved with the social web”, HTC’s much sought after Touch HD will not be making an official appearance in the US. Via Twitter, HTC has stated that it is too late to begin the process of landing approval to sell the Touch HD in the US and therefore it will simply skip it. Apparently HTC is already working on some other handsets, hopefully rocking Android, that it will grace the US market with and so by the time the Touch HD is ready to go it will be old news. Those of us who were looking forward to that beautiful 480 x 800 pixel WVGA display will either have to buy an import sans-compatible 3G or just do our best to put this beauty out of mind and wait to see what HTC has in store for us moving forward. All we know is it damn well better not be the Opal.

…and yet so far. So yesterday we told you about the HTC Touch HD and we don’t have to stress how smooth this thing looks. It’s a gem, no question. As far as the specs go, here’s what we knew yesterday:

480 x 800 pixel WVGA touchscreen display

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

TouchFLO 3D UI band-aid

3G

Qualcomm 7201A processor @ 528MHz

512MB ROM / 256MB RAM (+32MB on processor)

And here is what we know today:

115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm

Should be on shelves in time for the holidays (!)

Integrated GPS

5 Megapixel camera (!), no flash (not !)

No D-pad or scroll wheel, does have a stylus

microSD slot

1350 mAh battery

3.5mm headset jack on the top!

Barring a few hiccups, things just keep getting better with regards to the Touch HD. Mind you, if it maintains the “HD” in its name we can perhaps expect some special multimedia features, maybe even some that will be unique to the Touch HD. Nothing is perfect though, and we’re still not entirely happy with HTC. Considering how open Android is, why couldn’t HTC slap some TouchFLO 3D love on Google’s OS and make the Touch HD as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside? We’re not saying that Windows Mobile is ugly, mind you. We’re just saying that Android, umm, isn’t.

After yesterday’s somewhat disappointing HTC Opal news it looks like HTC fans can do a complete 180 and get pumped. This thing might look like a BlackBerry Thunder but thanks to TouchFLO 3D we can be pretty sure the Touch HD will offer a much better touch interface. Very little is known about this sexy little devil at this point but here’s what we can tell you:

All that plus a heaping dose of badass has us pretty excited. In fact, we’ve almost completely forgotten about the Opal. Our hope is that someone at HTC wised up, canned the Opal and this is what they coughed up instead.

[Thanks M]
