We have to admit we were pretty blown away by the responses from our exclusive pics of the Motorola RAZR3. So with this in mind (and the fact that it’s Sunday) we thought we’d have a little fun today and share a gallery’s worth of pictures and information about how this particular phone, which also happens to star in a YouTube video, came to be. All of this — and more — is available right after the jump.

First and foremost, let’s take a moment to talk about the phone itself. For something that wasn’t a smartphone, it would have had enough features and functionality to make Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Average happy had it not been killed off. Here are the key specs of the prototype:

Now that the specs are out of the way, here’s the story behind how this particular engineering prototype surfaced this week. Travis, the gentleman who now owns it, recently spotted an eBay listing for a unnamed mobile phone that was literally in pieces. Immediately recognizing it as the same phone a Motorola rep once showed when he used to work at Rogers, Travis immediately bought the phone so he could assemble it and bring it back to life.

Pretty crazy to think this thing was scheduled to debut at the same time as the DROID, right? Anyway…

We’re sure by now you’ve all seen the video overview of the Motorola RAZR3, so instead of running with that we thought we’d do our part by sharing some previously unseen photos of the now defunct handset. There’s really nothing for us to say about the flip phone that packs a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G and Symbian UIQ, but it’s always neat to see what might have been, right? The last and only time we talked about the RAZR3 aka Ruby was when we reported that Motorola had pulled the plug on it in order to allocate more resources towards developing Android-based handsets. But now thanks to Mobile-Review, press images of the RAZR3, apparently to be named the Ruby VE1, have surfaced which leads us to believe one of two things — either these are old photos or there is indeed a possibility that the clam shell with 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi and a 5 megapixel shooter might actually find a way to market. Now, there is also the possibility that Motorola did not kill off the RAZR3 but simply delayed it while trying to find a new OS — something that would be necessary as this phone was rumored to be running on Symbian’s now defunct UIQ OS. At this point we’re not even sure anyone cares enough to figure this out.

Call it the Paris, call it the P5 or call it the ghost of Sony Ericsson past – the bottom line is that this handset will likely never see the light of day. Those of you Sony Ericsson or UIQ die-hards out there will still be interested what we’ve got here though. We’re not sure who M. Kurowski is but he managed to get his hands on a Paris prototype and gave it some serious face time in a two-part video review for the ages. We have to say, this guy has got to be one of our favorite video reviewers of all time. Arguably even better than the Storm unboxing guy. Everything about this review is awesome – from the reviewer himself, to the fact that he shot the video in the dark, to the soothing sounds of what is either bacon sizzling or a fish tank bubbling in the background. It all combines to create a masterpiece. Amazing. Do yourself a favor and hit the jump for part two.

One of our Motorola ninjas hit us up to give us the low-down on their brand new unreleased flapship phone. It was described to us as being Motorola’s “last stand”, so to speak. Internally, everyone is hedging their bets on this bad boy, and if this doesn’t get accepted like Motorola hopes it will, it’s all over for them. Then again, it’s been all over for them for a while now, no? In any case, the specs on the phone codenamed Alexander are:

• Originally a 5 megapixel camera, but possibly scrapped since the ZN5 is out. It looks like it’s going to be an 8 megapixel camera phone. At least that’s what is floating around in the R&D labs…
• The device will have a built-in NVIDIA chip which will handle both video and 3D graphics.
• It will have GPS
• It might possibly be a touch screen but that has not been confirmed to us just yet.
• The phone is rumored to run UIQ as the OS, “probably version 4.0 or higher.”
• It’s called a “Dark Project” phone because of the secrecy surrounding it. Well, that worked out really pretty good.
• Release right now is set for October, but as always, that could change.
• Again, this is said to be Moto’s last big attempt at getting back their market share and reclaiming victory. If this doesn’t work out, we’re told it’s all over for them and they will sell the company.

How many RAZRs does it take to save Motorola? Apparently way more than 100M.
