It looks as if Dell’s Android handset is getting ready for prime time with AT&T as a new filing found on the FCC’s website has revealed the Mini 3iX. With both 850/1900 MHz bands of UMTS as well as Wi-Fi on board, the 3iX is likely to be identical to the Mini 3i which was unveiled in mid-August by China Mobile, the only difference being the aforementioned. If this is indeed the case then we’re looking at a 3.5″ 360×640 touchscreen display, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS and support for Microsoft Exchange. The question is, will anybody even care?

Ever since it was first announced at CES, people have been clamoring for a GSM version of the Palm Pre. About a month back we got our wish, but unfortunately the GSM Pre as we knew it did not include US 3G. We say ‘knew’ because the Wi-Fi Alliance recently certified a new variant of the Palm Pre, the P100UNA, complete with 850/1900MHz UMTS/HSPA. Wooo. Ordinarily we would assume this is a good indication that the Pre will be hitting up AT&T or Rogers after Sprint and Bell’s respective exclusivity periods are over, but considering that TELUS is about to make the move to HSPA we can’t help but wonder if perhaps the Pre will be one of its first smartphones.

Just one day after it was officially announced by LG, a super special variant of the incredibly sexy BL40 surfaced on the FCC. Dubbed the BL40g, it contains absolutely no surprises save for two of the things we love most in life — the 850 and 1900 MHz bands of UMTS. Now before any of you get jumping to conclusions such as “holy crap, it is coming to AT&T” we should remind you that the BL40 has long been known to be TELUS-bound in time for the launch of its HSDPA network. You know, seeing how it runs on the same bands as AT&T and Rogers… You get the idea.

Remember that whole Nokia flagship POS issue? Well, it looks like they’ve finally cleared that up. Ever since around 7PM ET they started selling the Nokia 5800 NAM edition handsets. What, you didn’t expect us to bum rush the store and purchase one already? We’ve taken some pictures of the phone for you, and here’s some quick impressions on what we think of it:

When you first pick up the NokYA, you’ll immediately notice that it’s light as hell. You might even have to check to make sure the battery is in — yeah, that light. Once you turn it on and get it to use it, however, the handset feels perfectly balanced. Many of you are wondering about the resistive touch screen (those of you who haven’t played with the Euro variant, we suppose), and to cut this short, it’s pretty bad. You don’t get a lot of feedback from the screen yet light touches are not accepted. That puts you in an awkward position — do soft, or too firm? We’re not sure, but you might want to call up SelectComfort about that, Nokia.

As far as S60 Fifth Edition goes, it’s cool. The larger UI elements make navigating pretty simple, and look, at the end of the day this is your tried and true Nokia handset. Great phone, great camera, music, web, texts and email. There’s no really scrolling or flicking through things, and that makes navigating really difficult in the limited time we’ve used it so far. We’re just not sure people will lining up to snatch one up with all the other options out there. Full review coming soon, but hey, the party is in the gallery, not here!

P.S. The battery used in here is 1320mAh, not 1500mAh as incorrectly reported elsewhere before — sorry!

The Nokia N78, huh? It’s the replacement for the ever-popular Nokia N73, but in a non-typical Nokia move, it’s actually available in a US 3G NAM flavor. Currently on the shelves at your local Nokia USA store, the N78 is the first handset from Espoo to ship with FP2. There’s a bunch of software improvement which we’ll get into another time, but our favorite one so far? The Destinations for Internet/WAP/MMS, etc. What this does is let you combine a bunch of your access points into one destination. No more of those annoying popup messages asking you how you want to connect even though you’re already connected to Wi-Fi and 3G. In terms of the handsets physical attributes… it’s nice. It’s a little long, but you can’t say it’s not sleek. A huge issue for us is the button placement. Granted it will take a little bit to get used to everything, but we can’t understand how in the heck that end key got placed on the left side like that. It is the most awkward thing to use if you’re holding the phone with one hand. Style over function, friends. Eh, there’s still a whole heep of function in there though.
