The Wi-Fi Alliance and the Wireless Gigabit Alliance have been working diligently on the next generation of high-speed, consumer Wi-Fi…and its name is WiGig. WiGig, which will run on the 60 GHz (yes, Gigahertz) spectrum, can reportedly reach speeds of up to 7 gigabits per second. In all likelihood the 60 GHz band will be used for short-range, extremely fast transfers within a local network, while the more familiar 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels (802.11 g/n) will be used for backwards compatibility, improved Wi-Fi range, and connection stability. “We have practically all of the Wi-Fi chip manufacturers on board,” boasted WiGig Alliance President and Chairman Ali Sadri.
Ever since it was first announced at CES, people have been clamoring for a GSM version of the Palm Pre. About a month back we got our wish, but unfortunately the GSM Pre as we knew it did not include US 3G. We say ‘knew’ because the Wi-Fi Alliance recently certified a new variant of the Palm Pre, the P100UNA, complete with 850/1900MHz UMTS/HSPA. Wooo. Ordinarily we would assume this is a good indication that the Pre will be hitting up AT&T or Rogers after Sprint and Bell’s respective exclusivity periods are over, but considering that TELUS is about to make the move to HSPA we can’t help but wonder if perhaps the Pre will be one of its first

About a month back we got our wish, but unfortunately the GSM Pre as we knew it did not include US 3G.
