- Ian has been obsessed with technology since being gifted a hand-me-down Coleco Adam as a child. The fact that this device included a built-in word processor may have been foreshadowing.
- He loves figuring out how things work by getting hands-on with technology. This has led him to add wireless charging functionality to his 3DS, jailbreak his Kindle, and create his own visual novel engine.
- His favorite gaming genres are RPGs, mysteries, and weird little indie games. He firmly believes Final Fantasy 9 is one of the greatest stories ever told.
Experience
Ian began his writing career creating buyer's guides for computer hardware but soon moved to covering cybersecurity, streaming, and consumer tech for publications like Comparitech and Bleeping Computer. One of the things he enjoys most about his work is explaining complex topics in accessible, newcomer-friendly ways. This was one of the factors that inspired him to write "Kids Can Code", a book that introduces children to the exciting world of web programming. When he's not writing, Ian enjoys coding, watching speedruns, and keeping up-to-date with all of the latest technological and gaming developments.
Education
Ian has a Bachelor of Science with Honors in computing from the University of the Highlands and Islands.
