The Tablet Market Might Be In Trouble, But This Brand Is The Exception

There is a crisis plaguing the technology industry, and it all has to do with artificial intelligence (AI) data centers needing vast amounts of RAM. With the buildings having hundreds of powerful computers powering popular AI tools like Claude, Copilot, and Gemini, each one needs high-powered RAM in order to process data. The demand for more RAM means other companies, such as tablet makers, must spend more to purchase RAM for their devices. However, one tablet maker seems to be weathering the storm: Lenovo.

Globally, the tablet market has seen reduced sales throughout 2026. The real strain hit in the second quarter when shipments fell by 10% year over year to 36 million units, according to Omdia. The only company that managed to ship tablets and see annual growth was Lenovo — not even Apple or Samsung saw increases. With an increase of 27% year on year, Lenovo's sales were due to demand from users as well as a preplanned marketing strategy from the company to ship tablets ahead of anticipated increases in prices. Lenovo also saw an opportunity to take advantage of major retail discounts and shipped to meet those deadlines. Lenovo also seems to be on the cutting edge of understanding the market. The company has shown off some cool new Lenovo tech concepts as well that consumers may be interested in using around the house to help them work, play, or study.

One factor in Lenovo's success is where the company makes its tablets and other devices. With increased tariffs from the U.S. in place in countries such as China, Lenovo has used production plants outside of China. This may be what is helping the company ship more tablets than its competitors. There are, however, other reasons as well, with one being that Lenovo's tablets are cheaper.

Looking at perhaps one of the most well-known tablet makers around, Apple, each of its tablets is marketed at a much higher price than Lenovo's. The iPad Pro starts at $1,199, while the smallest and lower-powered model, the iPad Air, begins at $599. Samsung's most expensive sits around $1,200, with its lower range being closer to $299.99. Acer's highest-costing tablet is $599.99, and its lowest is $119.99. Lenovo's highest priced tablet is $999.99, with its lowest costing just $99.99. All prices may change, but that initially low price makes it difficult to compete with Lenovo.

Lenovo also generally tends to offer a wider selection of tablets when compared to Samsung, Apple, and other brands. Apple's line of tablets includes the iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPad Pro, and iPad. Even when put up against Samsung, Lenovo's website says it has 15 tablets, while Samsung only shows it sells 11. Acer, on the other hand, has 20 tablets on its site — among the most from all brands — but they aren't all as powerful, nor are they all as affordably priced as Lenovo.

Lenovo tablets tend to be priced at a lower rate than those from competitors such as Acer, Samsung, and Apple. All three companies make various series of tablets with premium, mid-range, and lower-powered options available. The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is a mid-ranged priced tablet at $289.99 that has a 12.1-inch display, 2560 x 1600 resolution, and a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Processor all on Android 16. A comparable tablet from Acer is the Iconia Duo D12 at $349.99. It has a larger 12.2-inch display, but a lower 1600 x 2400 resolution, and a less powerful MediaTek Helio G99 processor.

Samsung makes the Galaxy Tab A11+, which is a comparable tablet to that of the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2. It has a smaller screen at 11-inches, a lower 1920 x 1200 resolution, and a not-as-powerful MediaTek MT8775 processor, all for $299.99. It's a little more expensive than the Lenovo, as well, but for a few more bucks you get a larger screen and more processing power.

It seems even with the tablet market having issues selling and shipping devices, Lenovo has managed to find a way to make a profit. If you want to buy a Lenovo tablet while it still remains more affordable than other brands, start looking at these specific models. You may even be able to find a compact tablet perfect for entertainment.
