In a likely effort to get Gen Z viewers to its app, Amazon Prime Video is adding more short-form content. It will now offer a curated selection of short-form news clips from multiple reputable sources as part of the news section on the app. This is aimed at helping folks get a quick rundown of national and local news when they don't have time to catch regular news coverage or full on-demand news segments. The feature seems to be influenced by an industrywide change to incorporate more and more TikTok-like short-form content. In May 2026, Prime Video made the first move in this regard by offering a scrollable, vertical short-form video feed called Clips that showcases personalized moments from various movies and TV shows. Clips reside on the homepage and are essentially designed to help with content discovery

News clips are available to all Prime and non-Prime Amazon customers for free and add to the already available news coverage on the service. For those unfamiliar with Prime Video, besides on-demand, live entertainment, and sports content, the service offers local, national, and international news via major providers as part of its news section.

How to access news clips on Prime Video

Amazon is initially adding news clips to the Prime Video app on smart TVs and other living room devices, such as streaming media players. You can access them by going to the news section using the Prime Video app's top navigation bar and then scrolling down to the 'Trending Topics' or 'Local News' carousel. It's limited to the U.S. right now, with no word on whether and when it'll roll out to the rest of the world. That said, the feature is confirmed to arrive on mobile and web later, but the company hasn't shared a timeline.

As TikTok and short-form videos are increasing the amount of news the Gen Z population consumes, Amazon is probably hoping that by providing short-form news clips on Prime Video, it might be able to get some Gen Z users to spend more time on its app. However, it remains unclear whether Prime Video is going to opt for a TikTok-like vertical format for news clips when the feature is rolled out for mobile devices.
