If you weren't one of the lucky ones to get in on the iPhone Duo preorders, you may now be waiting until 2027 to get the device. Although the device was originally announced on September 9, 2026, during Apple's Surprise and Shine event, even some folks at BGR are still patiently waiting to get their hands on one. With preorders for the device filling with incredible speed, it seems plenty of people want to do more than just talk about the device.

According to multiple sources online, preorders for the iPhone Duo are already bleeding into early 2027. Attempting to place a preorder through the Apple Store website presents a delivery date of Monday, January 25 — however, the website also states that users can check back on October 24 for an Apple Store pickup date. If you're one of the lucky ones who was able to complete a preorder before the times began to change, you should still expect to be able to pick up your iPhone Duo on October 23.

This delay applies to every storage, carrier, and color combination, and it would almost be impressive that Apple ended up suspending preorders so quickly were it not so annoying for those waiting to get the device. In terms of what may be causing the issue, those who have already been dealing with rising component costs this year likely know the reason, though high demand may also be causing a fair amount of issues. It's an unfortunate situation, even as some iPhone Duo buyers may already be making a huge mistake.

You may not see an iPhone Duo until 2027

With the iPhone Duo already being late to the party compared to the other devices announced at Apple's recent events (HomeView, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, and even the new Apple TV have seen launches), those eagerly awaiting the iPhone Duo with a starting price of $1,999 likely aren't thrilled at the prospect of waiting another three months. This is all good news for Apple, however, as the wait times for the Duo represent a new record. Past significant preorders included a six-week wait for the iPhone X and a two-month wait for the iPhone 7 Plus (per ZDNet).

Though demand for the devices is an obvious contributor to longer wait times, it also doesn't help that the iPhone Duo experienced early production issues. This includes certain iPhone suppliers, such as Foxconn, having issues with producing the phone's hardware at commercial scale. Reports also indicate that Samsung has had similar issues with the foldable OLED panels and hinges (per MacRumors). A report from MyDrivers (via MacRumors) states that a contract manufacturer for the iPhone Duo suggested to Apple that it should pick between "prioritizing yield and increasing output."

Considering component shortages aren't really anything new in 2026, this news isn't too surprising — but at least 2027 looks like a good year for foldable phones in general. Those still looking for an iPhone Duo may still have some options, such as attempting to preorder the phone through their carrier. Third-party retailers may also have stock, but don't be surprised if you don't get one 'til the new year.
