The "Power Rangers" reboot doesn't appear to be morphin' any time soon, but some recently released concept art reveals an interesting detail about the series. Samuel Garcia, an illustrator who's worked with Netflix, took to Instagram and shared photos depicting a female Red Ranger. The original posts have since been deleted, but the pics are available on the PwrRngr X account.

This isn't the first time a woman has donned the red suit: Charlie (Gina Varela), Lauren Shiba (Kimberley Crossman), and Amelia Jones (Hunter Deno) immediately spring to mind. However, it seems that Red Ranger from the concept art won't be joining them for the time being.

What's more, it isn't clear which "Power Rangers" reboot the concept art was made for. Jonathan Entwistle had been working on a reboot since 2018, which was set to go ahead at Netflix. The project then moved to Disney+ in 2024, with "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz taking the reins. Disney passed on the series in 2026, but rumor has it that Amazon Prime Video is now interested in bringing it to life.

Entwistle revealed that his franchise would have involved time travel and multiverses, seemingly inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, details about Netflix and Disney's reboots have largely been kept close to the vest, and response to the aforementioned concept art suggests fans aren't interested in seeing them.

Power Rangers concept art draws comparisons to 2017 movie

You probably remember the "Power Rangers" movie from 2017 that tried to be a serious character drama and fun superhero action movie at the same time. The experiment didn't land well with fans, causing the film to flop and join the list of sci-fi movies that set up sequels that we'll never see. It's unfair to lump the canceled reboots in with the flick since we don't have much information to go by. That said, some fans believe the released concept art similarly fails to understand "Power Rangers."

"Terrible, only marginally better than the 2017 suits," a fan wrote on X. "Once again they're trying to make Power Rangers something it isn't, and in the process it loses all of its charm. Update the original MMPR suits, but don't stray too far, it's not hard."

"The art itself is good enough, but good god do those suits look like a**," another fan noted. "I've seen Power Rangers parodies with better looking suits."

Overall, it seems like the concept art hasn't drummed up more interest for a "Power Rangers" reboot. The good news for the naysayers, though, is that this incarnation of the project appears to be dead in the water. Maybe the Amazon series will create more buzz, if it ever happens.
