A New PlayStation Rewards Program Is Giving Away Free Store Credit, But Nobody Knows Why

Sony seems to be in a giving mood with PlayStation owners, as the company is doling out $10 wallet credits for the PS Store when users purchase certain games. However, it doesn't seem like everyone is getting access to the promotion, and Sony hasn't made any announcements as to why it's doing this. Nonetheless, some are reporting that this mysterious offer may have something to do with the launching of a replacement for the PlayStation Stars program, though this is currently unconfirmed.

Originally spotted in a post on the r/playstation subreddit (per PlayStation Lifestyle), the user JannJans discovered the deal after looking at the purchasing screen for the game "The Blood of Dawnwalker" (including the "Eclipse Edition"). Other games seem to be a part of the promotion as well, and listings do mention a tag reading "Includes Wallet Credit." Along with being silent over the promotion, this also means that Sony hasn't produced any eligibility terms, and what regions can actually receive the discount remains unclear.

Despite not being available for all users, the offer still mentions that it's only available until September 29, 2026. Of course, this may not be that appealing to those that may still have feelings about the fact that Sony is switching to an all-digital future, but free money is rarely a bad thing, assuming one is actually able to view and accept the offer. This news also follows a recent PS5 update in which users get access to free live TV.

According to the Reddit post, navigating to certain games within the PS Store may show a note below the game stating that it "Includes Wallet Credit." Those that purchase a game with this listing will then receive $10 PSN wallet credit immediately after purchase. The credits can then be used anywhere in the PS Store. Unfortunately, it seems that if you don't see this promotion and receive the credit after purchase, you're out of luck.

Other games with this offer include "Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2," "Halloween: The Game," '"Mortal Shell II," "Hot Wheels Infinite Rush," and more. While Sony is quiet about what exactly it's doing, many online suspect it has something to do with the company ending the PlayStation Stars program November 2, 2026. PlayStation Stars was a loyalty program launched back in 2022 that allowed users to collect points and earn rewards.

This may also track with PlayStation Lifestyle discovering the PlayStation "Wallet Credits" app that was discovered in February 2026 and many users questioned what the app was doing in the PS Store in the first place. Though not everyone can access this current offer, checking certain titles in the PS Store for an offer may yield a couple of extra bucks the next time you want to purchase something from Sony — although "purchasing" may be the wrong word since it's questionable if you actually own the digital games you buy on the PS5.
