How Long Does The New Siri AI Take To Activate On iOS 27?

Apple released its new iOS 27 update in September 2026, and users have been taking advantage of new features like AI photo-editing capabilities and child safety tools. One of the top headline features, though, is the newly-revamped Siri AI. But even if you have a compatible iPhone, you need  to request access from Apple to actually get Siri AI enabled, as it's still technically in testing. When you do, Apple says you'll be waitlist waitlisted, but it's unclear for how long.

Technically speaking, Apple says Siri AI is still in its beta phase despite the deep integration of AI into iOS 27, so some people may wait longer than others. However, if you want to check for yourself, you can navigate to Settings > Siri and then tap Try Siri AI (Beta) to see if it's enabled or join the waitlist. You may need to enable Siri before completing this step.

Apple users who have received access have posted online that they spent anywhere from a couple of hours to several weeks on the waitlist. Communities on Reddit and longtime Apple watchers suspect the company may be releasing the AI in stages, to help with server load during this transition and roll out. Other AI providers have also reported significant demand when they release new products.

Looking at the r/iOS27 and r/Apple subreddits, people have stated different times for when they received access to the new Siri AI. Some have said they waited over 24 hours for Siri to arrive, while it took up to 48 hours for others. It's also worth noting that Siri AI is currently only available in English, as support for languages like Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese and French should begin rolling out in October 2026.

If you see a banner in Settings stating "Optimizing Search and Siri," this means your iPhone is still pouring through your device's storage to rebuild your search index, which is like a table of contents. It's likely one reason why one user within the Community forums on Apple's website reported waiting six days to receive access. Additionally, one user in the r/iOS27 subreddit mentions speaking to Apple about the issue, though the representative apparently said they cannot access the Siri AI waitlist, nor provide additional information.

For those who have been waiting for the update, having to wait a little longer can certainly be frustrating. In previous years, some users have even sued the company over its Siri marketing, reaching a settlement in which the company is paying $95 each to many iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 users . 

While some people online have expressed frustration over the wait, not everyone feels that way. As one user on the r/Apple subreddit said, "You also waited a year for iOS 27 to come out, what's another day or two?"
