Say your Samsung phone's broke, and you're broke. If Samsung's the phone brand you want to stick with and you only have $200, you don't have many options. But, if you're buying unlocked, Samsung's Galaxy A16 5G from 2025 will be the newest and best phone you can get. The A16 is marketed as a mid-range phone, offering a 6.7-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a 5,000 mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 50MP main camera. Samsung has also promised Android and security updates for the device through October 2030. Any remaining inventory is fast going out of stock, but Best Buy does have Latin American units available for $170. The biggest tradeoff is that you'll lose out on a lot of 4G and 5G band support versus an A16 made for North America, but you'll still be able to use it with carriers compatible with the AT&T and T-Mobile networks.

We should note a sad irony in that the Galaxy A17 5G was only $200 when it launched in January 2026, but then it bumped up by $50, presumably thanks in part to the ongoing supply crisis for memory and other tech components. If you're considering an A17 anyway, the generational step up doesn't offer much outside of an extra year of updates. That said, Amazon does sell used A17 phones for under $200 when on sale.

Other Samsung phones under $200

If Samsung's Galaxy A-series isn't to your tastes, you can check out even older flagship stock. Used and refurbished Galaxy S22 and S22+ units released in 2022 are available for under $200 across Amazon, eBay, and Swappa. You'll definitely feel the difference made by the doubled baseline RAM and more powerful processor, even if you're just handling day-to-day multitasking. The series, however, has already received its last scheduled major OS update — sorry, no One UI 9.0 for you — and it's set to get its final security patch this coming winter.

Those minding their budget who are able to jump carriers might want to consider Metro by T-Mobile's offer on a Galaxy A37. That phone has similar specs to the Galaxy A16 or A17, but with slight performance, camera, and display improvements. By shopping online and bringing over your number, you can get the phone for free on a $40 monthly unlimited plan, though it should be noted that your data speeds will be slightly slower on average than those on other plans. Still, this offer is one of very few that's not tied to a service plan costing $50 or more a month. If that isn't enough for you, though, it may be worthwhile to consider phones in the sub-$200 price bracket from other companies.
