Rugged tablets are built to withstand the heavy-duty wear and tear that comes with construction, frequent travel, first responder work, and harsh outdoor environments. All of our recommendations feature, at a minimum, IP68 water and dust resistance. This means they're fully protected from dust and debris, and when it comes to water, they can be submerged at up to a depth of one meter for a period of up to 30 minutes and come out working as intended.

Many rugged tablets also feature durable cases and reinforced corners to protect against scratches and drops. The 8849 Tank Pad Ultra, for instance, comes enclosed in a TPU gel case with a protective film layer pre-installed over the screen, on top of the tablet's own IP68 resistance rating.

Of course, a good rugged tablet is more than durable. It needs to have enough battery life to get through the work day while running fairly resource-heavy applications like CAD software, video playback, and spreadsheet editing. The hardware needs to be up to snuff, too, and may need to offer cellular data if you're getting away from Wi-Fi range. We've selected five Android tablets across a range of budgets, use cases, and hardware capabilities — all with serious rugged designs — to power your workday.

Ulefone Armor Pad 5 Ultra

The Ulefone Armor Pad 5 Ultra ($799.99 at Amazon, on sale for $719.99 at the time of writing) is a solid Android tablet in its own right outside of the rugged durability features. It comes equipped with 32GB of RAM (12GB physical, 20GB adjustable), 512GB of storage, a MediaTek Dimensity 7400X 5G eight-core processor, and a 24200mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging. The Armor Pad 5 Ultra, which runs Android 15, has a number of quality-of-life features too. There's a built-in 200-lumen projector that you can use for planning and presentations, and you can also utilize it as a portable power bank in a pinch. You can charge other devices through USB-C at 10W.

To stay connected when there's no Wi-Fi around, the Armor Pad comes with 5G connectivity and dual SIM standby, though it should be noted that this tablet is not compatible with AT&T or Cricket cellular data (AT&T Wi-Fi works just fine). The 11-inch Corning Gorilla Glass display offers 1920 x 1200 resolution with 600 nits at peak brightness, and it comes with a pre-installed protective film. Several customer reviews also praise the 64MP back camera quality (32MP front camera) for job-site photos and video calls.

As for the rugged durability aspects, the Ulefone Armor Pad 5 Ultra comes with IP68/IP69K dust and water resistance, and the display is MIL-STD-810H certified. The included detachable carrying handle is one solid, sturdy chunk of aluminum, and it doubles as a kickstand to prop the tablet up hands-free. Plus, Ulefone offers 12 months of warranty service in the U.S., so you're covered on repairs for up to a year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro

Samsung's Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro ($759 at Samsung, device trade-in credit available) is a solid all-around rugged tablet pick with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. It's MIL-STD-810H certified, which means it meets Defense Department environmental standards. It can withstand drops at up to 1.8 meters (5.9 feet), and can safely be submerged in up to five feet of water for up to 30 minutes. One of the most useful features is its  battery life — there are two internal batteries (10100mAh) which can be hot-swapped during usage, meaning if one of them dies you can simply open the tablet up and pop in a charged battery. You get two batteries included, but if you want an extra you'll have to buy it separately. It also features a No Battery mode, letting you use the tablet while connected to a power source even if the batteries are dead.

Inside the tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro features an eight-core, 2.5Ghz processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. You also have the option to expand storage up to 2TB using a microSD card. It runs the latest version of Android 15 and offers Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity. Speaking of connectivity, $759 gets you the Wi-Fi only version of the tablet; if you want to use cellular data, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro 5G is $869 at Samsung.

The 10.1-inch WUXGA display comes in at a 1920x1200 resolution, and can be used with most gloves on thanks to Glove Mode — but keep in mind Samsung stated that this may not work with particularly heavy duty gloves. A Galaxy S Pen is also included for sketches and signatures, and the case offers a slot to keep it handy.

Oukitel RT7 Titan 5G

The Oukitel RT7 Titan 5G ($629.99 at Oukitel) Rugged Tablet is a particularly good option for anyone who needs a rugged Android tablet that also comes with impressive battery life. Its massive 32000mAh battery is by far and away the largest on this list, and more than you'll find in almost any commercially-available tablet. Outkitel rates it at 35 hours of continuous video playback or 45 hours of web browsing on a single charge, and up to 188 days in standby mode. It also supports 33W charging — which is a bit slow compared to other rugged Android tablets — and can be charged from zero to 100% in 360 minutes. Plus, it's reverse-charging capable, meaning you can use it to charge other electronics through USB-C.

Durability is, of course, a major boon with the Oukitel RT7 Titan 5G too. It offers IP68 and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings, protecting it against sediment and debris, water immersion at up to five feet, and high-pressure water blasts. Its reinforced body is MIL-STD-810H compliant, meaning its protected from drops, shocks, scratches, and extreme temperatures. It also comes with an aluminum handle, comfortable hand strap, or crossbody shoulder strap connected to the protective case for easy transit.

Under the hood, the Oukitel RT7 Titan 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 eight-core processor, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage which is plenty to handle most day-to-day tasks. The display comes in at 10.1 inches with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a max brightness of 400 nits. 400 nits isn't bad, but it might be a bit hard to see if you work in particularly bright environments.

AGM PAD P2 Active

If you want rugged durability on a budget, the AGM PAD P2 Active ($299 at AGM) – which runs Android 14 — is a great choice. It meets the same IP68 and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings, along with MIL-STD-810H certification, but you will find some compromises in hardware performance to match the lower price tag.

For starters, the AGM PAD P2 Active uses a MediaTek Helio G99 eight-core processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This isn't a particularly powerful hardware setup, but it's still capable of handling daily tasks like spreadsheet management, email, and setting up documents to sign. The 11-inch FHD display runs at a 90Hz refresh rate, which is a nice quality-of-life upgrade for general browsing, and it offers a respectable max brightness of 480 nits. Speaking of general browsing, the PAD P2 Active's case is removeable when you don't need extra protection and want a slimmer profile, making it a solid Android tablet to use at work and home. However, without the case, you miss out on the built-in kickstand/handle combo and extra shock absorption.

One of the biggest drawbacks with the AGM PAD P2 Active is its 8000mAh battery. It's considerably smaller than the other rugged tablets on our list, and there's a good chance you'll need to find some time to charge up if you run resource-intensive applications like CAD software. For under $300, though, you get all the rugged durability you need without extra bells and whistles upping the price.

8849 Tank Pad Ultra

The 8849 Tank Pad Ultra ($719.99 at Amazon) is purpose-built to withstand harsh working conditions, featuring IP68 and IP69K water and dust resistance along with MIL-STD-810H certification. The tablet's rugged exterior offers stalwart protection against drops, bumps, and scratches, while the protective film over the screen keeps the display from getting damaged on the jobsite. Plus, it comes enclosed in a TPU gel case with reinforced corners to better absorb and distribute shock from drops and impacts.

When it comes to performance, the Tank Pad Ultra features a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 eight-core processor, 32GB of RAM (16GB physical, 16GB virtual), and 512GB of storage, which is a fairly capable setup that can handle some power-hungry applications. Combined with that hardware, you get a 23400mAh battery in the Tank Pad Ultra, which will easily get you through a full workday or camping movie night. When it's time to charge up, 66W USB-C charging gets you from zero to 100% in about four to five hours — not exactly lightning fast, but you shouldn't have to charge up that considerable battery all too often. The Tank Pad Ultra can also be used as a power bank to charge up other devices through its USB-C port.

This 8849 tablet also comes with a built-in 1080p projector, which you can use for training videos, blueprint planning, movies, or presentations. It also comes with 5G cellular data connectivity out of the box (unlocked, compatible with major cell carriers) and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.

How we chose these rugged Android tablets

In order to choose these tablets, we first laid the foundation for what a good rugged Android tablet should feature. First, the tablets needed to offer at least IP68 water and dust resistance to earn a recommendation. On top of that, they required exterior cases to better protect it from scratches, scuffs, and general debris. A good rugged tablet should have enough battery life to get you through a typical workday, and it earns bonus points for fast-charging and reverse charging abilities.

Our list also needed to run Android OS. Powering Android OS, our recommendations feature a performant processor, at least 8GB of RAM, and a minimum of 128GB of storage. Hands-free connections can also be a major plus in active environments, so we sought tablets with Bluetooth capabilities. It should also be a good value at its current price based on the internal components, design, and durability certifications.

With these key criteria in mind, we browsed major electronics retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and more, for options. We also searched manufacturers like Oukitel that specialize in rugged outdoor electronics. With a group of possible candidates gathered, we narrowed the list down to these recommendations based on the tablets we believe pose the best value across a range of budgets, along with those that have overwhelmingly positive user reviews.
